The national museum has decided to erect a statue in front of its entrance. They have to choose between Raffles and Tan Tock Seng. If you are working for the museum, which one will you choose?

I will choose to erect Tan Tock Seng's satue at the entrance.

Tan Tock Seng was one of the richest merchants in Singapore. He was also a philanthropist who gave generously to charity. He started out poor, selling vegetables by the road. He soon became rich but did not ignore the suffering and plight of his other fellowmen. He founded a hospital in Pearl's Hill where immigrants could seek medical help at little or no cost. He had a passion for the sick and poor and even paid funeral expenses of those who could not afford one at that time. Tan Tock Seng was also a leader of the chinese community. He was the first Asian to be appointed Justice of peace and helped on settling problems and disputes in the Chinese community.

Tan Tock Seng was indeed a role model for everyone, so i would choose to erect his satue.

Why do you not choose Raffles instead and why?

Tan Tock Seng had done much more for the chinese community and help the poor needy. Raffles made Singapore prosperous but Tan Tock Seng is a good role model for us to follow.

Besides, there are already two statues of Raffles.
